Next Floor Please

Life is like an elevator with its ups and downs. Along the way you meet wonderful people who in one way or another have a deep and lasting influence on you. The time spent together in the elevator is pleasant and soon you have made a great friend. And never once does it dawn on you that soon your friend will eventually come to the floor they've been waiting for and will step off the elevator. And you're left inside the box with a piece of you that has gone, but through having known that person, you have changed. Not drastically, but subtlely. You have given a part of yourself to that person and vice versa. Yet you are left wondering if you will ever see your friend again. Then some time may pass by and the elevator makes another stop and a new person steps on board. Again you bond with this new person and develope a new and magnificent friendship. But alas, the time soon comes when that person steps off the elevator as well. And a pattern is formed, and as you meet all sorts of great people you learn from them and you grow. It's a bittersweet ride...

So I guess what I'm trying to say is...Thank you to all the people that I have met thus far...knowing you has had a profound effect on me...although it is sad when we've had to say good bye, but just know that a part of you will always be with me...and who knows, someday soon you will be waiting for an elevator and the doors will slide open and there we'll see each other and pick up where we had left off...

...So my dear friend...what floor?

Do you ever feel like you want to be the one getting off the elevator, as opposed to just staying on and having people come and go all the time? Or what about those internal ups and downs, so when the elevator door opens, you don't want to talk to the person because you know they're just going to get off?
